More Than Winning

One of the most awaited events for students every school year is the Intramurals. Our school held its Intramurals last September 4 to 7, beginning with a colorful parade that filled the streets with energy and cheer. As one of the official photographers, I had the privilege of capturing every smile, every laugh, and every moment of excitement.

Even early in the morning, the enthusiasm was already visible. My classmates were eager to cheer not only for their friends and teammates but also for the overall spirit of competition. In the past, I was not very active in this event because I did not consider myself sporty. This year was different. Being part of the coverage allowed me to see the Intramurals from a new perspective, one that went beyond simply winning or losing.

We were assigned to cover the events held at UNP, which included athletics, football, and other games. Standing by the sidelines with my camera, I realized that this event was not only about sports but also about determination, friendship, and support.

Many classmates and schoolmates still showed up to cheer for their athletes, even on weekends and even though the events were held outside our school. The gym came alive during Mr. and Ms. Intramurals, where our entire Grade 10 section united to support our representative. The crowd shouted their hearts out to show their pride. At the same time, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts ensured order and discipline, proving that every role, whether competing, cheering, or facilitating, was important for the success of the event.

As I continued covering the games, I realized something deeper. The athletes were not only there to win medals. Many of them were there to prove something to themselves, to push their limits, and to grow stronger. During the 3km run, I saw exhaustion written on their faces, but they never gave up. One runner even kept going despite the pain in his side, showing perseverance and discipline in pursuing his passion. That moment taught me a valuable lesson: losing does not mean failure. It is a chance to learn, to improve, and to prepare for the next challenge. Intramurals showed me that passion and persistence are far more important than victory. If we keep moving forward despite the setbacks, one day we will shine as the brightest star.
